Adventure in Upstate New York

Did you know there are some interesting things to see in Upstate New York? Here are just a few; along the way to the Beautiful Adirondacks.

Let’s begin just outside of Cobleskill, if you like caves you can stop at Secret Caverns and then continue on up the road to Howe Caverns. When you are finished stop off at the bottom of the hill at the Iroquois Indian Museum, children enjoy this a lot, there are usually crafts they can participate in.

For the next day’s adventure we are going towards Amsterdam in Vail Mills to the Wildlife Sports and Educational Museum. This is a unique place for the outdoor sportsman of any age. Run by all volunteers they feature hundreds of Animal mounts, record breakers mostly and many are full body. They have everything from deer to lions at the over 14000 square foot building.

We can then continue on to the Adirondack museum don’t worry you’re not lost it just looks that way. There is not a lot of traffic and towns and life are few and far between, this is likely to be an all day adventure so plan ahead.

One of my favorite visits was to Pottersville to stone bridge and caves. I love rocks and anything to do with them. This place is cool, there are trails and bridges and caves made by the rushing water.cruise 2 Dec 2011 194

Also very near by in North Creek is a garnet mine where you can go dig for garnets and they are pretty easy to find, be aware they do charge by weight when you leave.

Please be sure to click on the highlighted words for direct links to the individual business web sites. I will cover a few more gems another week. Thanks for visiting.
