Carnival Horizon

Carnival Cruise Line Takes Delivery Of 26th Ship, Carnival Horizon

March 28, 2018

Line’s Newest Ship to Sail on Inaugural Voyage from Barcelona April 2

MIAMI (March 28, 2018) –  In a traditional maritime handover ceremony held earlier today at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, Carnival Cruise Line officially took delivery of the new 133,500-ton Carnival Horizon, the 26th ship in its fleet.

The 3,954-passenger ship will reposition to Barcelona, Spain, where it will depart April 2 on an inaugural 13-day voyage – the first of four sailings from the European port.  The ship will then operate a trans-Atlantic crossing before arriving in New York May 23, 2018, for a pierside overnight gala and naming ceremony featuring the ship’s godmother, Grammy award-winning musical artist and acclaimed actress Queen Latifah.

Following a summer schedule of four-day Bermuda and eight-day Caribbean sailings from New York, Carnival Horizon will shift to Miami for a year-round schedule of six- and eight-day Caribbean cruises beginning Sept. 22, 2018.

Carnival Horizon offers several unique and exciting features, including a new Dr. Seuss-themed WaterWorks aqua park, part of the line’s exclusive partnership with Dr. Seuss Enterprises, Bonsai Teppanyaki, the line’s first teppanyaki venue, and Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse|Brewhouse serving up “real deal” barbecue favorites created by Food Network star Guy Fieri, as well as four new craft beers brewed on board.

The four new beers on Carnival Horizon will include:

• ParchedPig Smoked Porter – brewed with in-house smoked malt, this robust, full-bodied beer offers big and bold flavors and notes of molasses and hickory smoke, providing the perfect complement to Smokehouse|Brewhouse’s BBQ favorites

• ParchedPig Farmhouse Ale – this lightly hopped beer is distinguished by its blond color, fruity and complex character with mild spice notes that balance the brew’s dry finish

• ParchedPig Toasted Amber Ale – highlighted by its rich amber color and notes of toasted caramel and biscuit, this beer is well balanced, smooth and highly drinkable

• ParchedPig West Coast IPA – the embodiment of a traditional West Coast India Pale Ale, this hoppy, intense beer is loaded with bitterness with a bright flavor profile and distinctive aroma of citrus and pine

The second in the line’s highly successful Vista-class, Carnival Horizon also offers fun innovations like the bike-ride-in-the-sky aerial attraction SkyRide, an IMAX Theatre, the Havana section with tropics-inspired staterooms and its own pool, and Family Harbor featuring extra-roomy accommodations and the Family Harbor Lounge.    Like its name implies, Carnival Horizon also includes food and beverage outlets offering amazing views with both indoor and al fresco seating options at venues such as Bonsai Sushi, Fahrenheit 555 steakhouse and Library Bar.

“Carnival Horizon is an absolutely stunning ship offering so many ways to ‘Choose Fun’ both inside and out,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.  “In addition to the many exciting innovations previously introduced on Carnival Vista, Carnival Horizon offers some new one-of-a-kind features and attractions that make this ship truly special allowing our guests to create a lifetime of wonderful vacation memories,” she added.

Why Travel?

Many people have never travelled. If that is you, “Why travel?” you asked. To quote my tagline… “It’s all about the journey”. Start small, and venture out of your comfort zone. Take a road trip to a nearby attraction and along the way take in your surroundings. What makes the location different? Are the houses the same? Do people have a different accent? What makes the area unique? What makes it similar?

Often, leaving makes you appreciate your home more. Sometimes however you will get the bug to travel. It starts out small. Before I started as a travel planner, I never had left the country. I have travelled all over the U. S. and Canada and actually flying is not my favourite thing. That doesn’t hold me back any longer sinse I got the cruising bug. I will fly anywhere, anytime to get to a ship. If you follow any news stories you will see there is no lack of entertainment on flights. I am not referring to the movie or snacks. That is exactly what I mean about the journey.

I cannot begin to explain, on many days when I’m learning about a new destination the combination of butterflies in my stomach and a restless leg and mind syndrome I encounter. I want to leap out of my chair and go, go, go.

There is a big world out there and truly understanding it takes work. We are all different and we are all the same.

Grand Turk

The largest of 40 small islands that makes up Turks and Caicos with an average temperature between 80 and 84 degrees.

In several locations you can see clear across the island to the other side. This fairly flat island is less than 7 square miles.

The first documented discovery was in 1512 by Ponce de Leon although many believe, Christopher Columbus landed here in 1492.

A monument in his honor has been erected in Cockburn Town.
Features JAGS McCartney International Airport near John Glen Drive. Astronaut John Glen’s space ship splashed down in the atlantic ocean in 1962 just of the coast of Grand Turk and a replica is placed here, just a few months later Scott Carpenter also splashed down.

Over 150 years ago The Grand Turk Lighthouse was brought over from the UK to cut down on shipwrecks on the reefs.

Donkeys and even a few horses run wild here and are protected. You can see these are accustomed to daily visits from the Calypso Tram.

Tourism is the main business , the locals are friendly and appreciative of the people.

It’s For Sale with an Ocean View.

Snorkeling & Diving are plentiful.

Happy New Year

Cruising

What makes a great cruise ?
The definition of a great cruise is as different as the number of Cruise lines. Is it Food? Is it Service? Is it Comfort? More importantly are you comparing apples to apples or are you really comparing to grapes?

My first cruise was on a Carnival ship and I was pleased with my choice. It was to Alaska so maybe it’s not totally a fair comparison. Besides the spectacular scenery, there are very good comedians and stage productions as well as a Casino and a few stores. Activities are also planned daily at no charge like trivia games and competitions. Many people’s  reaction to Carnival is; outdated with garish décor. Honestly that was fine with me I loved it since it reminded me of the Love Boat. That is especially funny to most since Princess ( owned by Carnival Corp) actually was the real Love Boat. Many of the Carnival ships are being dry docked and overhauled as well as new ships such the Vista being built. You will not find a more dedicated staff, especially at that price-point.
That is the real elephant in the room, MONEY. Either you want to spend it or you don’t. Princess and Cunard while we are on the subject offers a classier experience. There are more amenities in the stateroom and you will be pampered more. There are fewer children, partly because of the cost and partly due to more programs offered on Carnival geared for young children not offered on Princess and Cunard. There are several restaurants that are an added cost to dine in or you can have a special meal served on your balcony also an additional fee.
Still not satisfied would you prefer staterooms that were double the size of the average with beautiful sliding glass doors or heated floors in the bathroom and real tile. Drinks often included at Dinner and at least one excursion at no additional cost. Don’t worry although older children are not prevented from sailing the lack of entertainment usually keeps them away. These luxury liners do not have Comedy Clubs and Floor Shows but instead feature large libraries and guest Lecturer.
If this is more your taste Visit my website or one of my specialty links for Avalon , Ama Waterways, or Viking all very luxurious cruise lines for those that want a more refined experience and to be pampered.

STILL A BARGAIN
No matter how you look at it, there is no other way to truly enjoy a vacation. What more could you ask for, you arrive at the Port and hand off you luggage unpacking only once. You know where your room is every night and don’t have to cook or make the bed. ( I know some of you have a maid )
It is also more comforting in some areas to know you are there with a group even though you may not see a lot of the people from your ship once your off on an excursion. It’s nice to know someone is there waiting for you, you’re not totally alone in an unfamiliar territory.
I love to hear the naysayers…. I could never cruise, I would go stir crazy being stuck on a ship for days.
How many of you that have said those words truly understand the size of a cruise ship? Yes there are many but mostly big, bigger and WOW. The next time you go to your local mall (the one with INDOOR stores) look around , could you spend a few days there maybe eating free food or hanging around a pool or three(yes 3 at least) with a drink and lounge chair. Now if you can see from one end to the other of that mall mentally stack another Mall on top and now you’re getting close to experiencing the size of a cruise ship.
